All modern vehicles are equipped with NOx (nitrogen oxide) sensors to analyse the emissions, making sure they are within legal limits.

It’s not particularly difficult to repair a NOx sensor, but it can be expensive. It may also be the case that part of the NOx sensor, called the Lambda probe, simply needs replacing.
